DATEV in Line with Digital Transformation Trend

Turnover increased to 978 million euros, with a growth rate of 5.4 percent clearly above market average. Dr. Robert Mayr, chairman of the executive board: "Found the right solutions for digital cooperation".

Digital cooperation between tax consultancies, enterprises, and administrative bodies is gathering pace, economy is booming: with this tailwind in the past business year software and IT service provider DATEV has achieved the highest absolute growth of the past ten years. From 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017 the cooperative’s turnover increased by 5.4 percent to 978 million euros (previous year 928.3 million euros). The growth rate was very clearly above the IT market’s growth (+3.9 percent) as well as the GDP (+2.2 percent).

Two major trends caused this burst of growth: the increasing digitalization of business processes – from accounting to balancing and tax declaration – lead to a strong demand and increasing number of users, causing two thirds of growth. So the amount of vouchers stored in the DATEV data center increased by 174 million to more than 700 million. The dynamics of digitalization also marked the amount of enterprises using digital voucher accounting. Every month there are 4,700 more enterprises, compared to 3,300 in 2016.

A further third of the turnover growth is due to the current economic trend and the increased amount of persons employed. This lead, for example, to a new high of employees accounted with DATEV systems: In 2017 the cooperative service provider reached the 150 million mark of payroll accounting. A monthly average of 12.5 million employees receive their payment statement with DATEV support, 370,000 of them digitally – which is a duplication in only one year.

Compared to turnover growth, the operating result increased by 11.4 percent to 60.5 million euros (54.3 million euros previous year), thanks to a lower increase of operating expenses (by 5.0 percent).

At the same time, the number of employees increased by 287 to 7,292 by 31 December 2017 in annual comparison.

The number of the cooperative’s members – tax consultants, auditors, and lawyers – remained firm at 40,555 due to concentration tendencies in the tax consulting profession.
