DATEV Growing Further in the First Half Year 2019

Further turnover growth due to digitalization in consultancies and enterprises – CEO Mayr: „Highly pleased with this development“.

Nuremberg, 19 July 2019: During the first six months of the accounting year 2019 (1 January to 30 June) DATEV eG grew again. With a plus of 6.6 percent turnover reached 546.0 million euros (512.3 million previous year) in the first half year. Main growth engine are the product groups financial and payroll accounting. „We are very content with this development,“ commented Dr. Mayr, DATEV’s CEO. „Following the burst of growth and crossing the turnover limit of one billion in the previous business year, the current half-yearly figures indicate that this is not a flash in the pan“.

As of 30 June 2019 the number of employees was 7,760, increasing by 373 compared to the previous year (30 June 2018: 7,387). At the end of last year 7,606 people were working for DATEV.

The cooperative could also clearly expand its clientele – most of all tax consultants, auditors, lawyers, and their clients, mainly small and medium-sized enterprises. The number of customers increased within a year by 41,000 to roughly 325,000 (30 June 2018: 284,000).

„Even if our development is not linear, we already have an expectation for the full year. As early as in March we trusted ourselves to achieve a five before the decimal point. This we want to achieve for the overall business year 2019 at least!“ says Diana Windmeißer, chief financial officer DATEV eG.

DATEV benefits from an increased use of digital solutions during the previous business year (1 January to 31 December 2018), crossing the turnover mark of one billion euros (1.034 million). Reasons for this strong boost in turnover can be found in the increasing digitalization of business processes – for example in accounting, balancing, and tax declaration – and its resulting demand and growing number of users.

The lower operating expenses in the business year 2018 – compared to turnover growth – caused a clearly higher operating result of 74.6 million euros (previous year 60.5 million). Following the approval of the financial accounts by the 50th members’ representatives meeting on 28 June 2019, DATEV members will be refunded 43.0 million euros through a cooperative’s refund (previous year 41.2 million euros). Thus the refund rate remained constant at 5.0 percent of last year’s refundable turnover.
